BIO

The Full Story

Jessica Agnew, MSc, is a doctoral candidate in the Planning, Governance and Globalization degree program in the School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia Tech. She is in the Urban and Environmental Design and Planning track, focusing in International Development Planning. Jessica will graduate in Fall 2019 with a Master of Public Health from Virginia Tech.

In 2016, Jessica earned her Master of Science in Food, Agriculture, and Resource Economics from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in the same major in December 2012.

Jessica's research focuses on private sector approaches to address malnutrition in low and middle-income countries. She has conducted fieldwork in Bangladesh, Kenya and Mozambique, working with businesses and consumers to increase the sale and purchase of nutritious foods. Jessica has presented her research in six countries at various conferences and workshops. Most recently, she has finished her fieldwork for her PhD in Mozambique, funded through a crowd sourcing campaign supported by the Clinton Global Initiative University.

In August 2018, Jessica was awarded the American Association of University Women International Doctoral Fellowship for her work in Mozambique. Currently, Jessica is working as a graduate assistant in the Center of International Research, Education, and Development at Virginia Tech.
